PlayMath 2025: Outcomes Summary
PlayMath 2025 is a nationwide online math challenge designed to help Ukrainian students rebuild motivation and overcome learning losses caused by the war and the pandemic, while ensuring equal access to quality, engaging, and interactive mathematics education. The initiative supports Ukraine’s education recovery, digital transformation, and alignment with EU priorities on STEM, inclusion, and skills development.
Overview:
PlayMath 2025 was a nationwide digital math challenge that united 18,671 participants — including 16,525 students, 2,146 teachers, and 679 schools — across all regions of Ukraine.
Impact Highlights:
- 90% of students improved their academic performance in mathematics after participating.
- The project reached children from the frontline and displaced communities, offering them stability and confidence through digital learning.
- Teachers became the backbone of the initiative - over 2,000 educators actively supported their students and integrated PlayMath tools into classroom practice.
- Learning took place even in shelters, under air-raid sirens, with mobile devices and flashlights - proving Ukrainian resilience through education.
PlayMath 2025 provided a sense of normality and community, transforming learning into an empowering experience for children under stress.
Geographic Coverage:
Participants represented all regions of Ukraine, including frontline and de-occupied territories such as Donetsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Mykolaiv oblasts.
Pedagogical Innovation:
The competition used short 3–5 minute video lessons, adaptive tasks, and gamification mechanics to make math engaging and accessible for every learner. Students could replay lessons, track progress, and celebrate improvements, building intrinsic motivation.
Qualitative Results:
- 85–90% of students reported that video lessons were clear and engaging.
- Over 70% began studying new topics beyond their school curriculum.
- More than half voluntarily repeated lessons to improve their results.
- Teachers noted higher engagement, improved self-confidence, and stronger collaboration between students and families.
Broader Significance:
PlayMath 2025 became a symbol of educational resilience and digital inclusion in wartime Ukraine — showing that even under the toughest conditions, children keep learning, teachers keep inspiring, and education keeps uniting communities.
