Short summary: 

The European Commission's bi-annual University-Business Forum brings together policymakers, representatives from higher education, business and other stakeholders to discuss and debate the role of university-business cooperation for innovation and sustainable development. Several members of the EU STEM Coalition were invited to present their initiatives during the workshop and discussion session focused on skills mismatch in STEM.

Objective of the meeting: 

The University-Business Forum provides a unique opportunity for discussion, the sharing of experience, the exchange of good practices, networking and mutual learning and has sparked the development of several new EU initiatives including the Knowledge Alliances.

Description: 

The Forum brought together policymakers, representatives from higher education, business and other stakeholders to discuss and debate the role of university-business cooperation for innovation and sustainable development. The EU STEM Coalition (represented by partners from Finland and Hungary as well as the secretariat were invited to give presentations during the workshop and discussion session focused on skills mismatches. 

 

Alongside the key theme of the Forum - innovation and sustainable development - topics, such as lifelong learning, regional and local eco-systems, social innovation, artificial intellligence, entrepreneurial individuals and organisations, and institutional change were also discussed.  

Next steps: 

The EU STEM Coalition will periodically update relevant stakeholders (including the higher education unit of DGEAC) on new developments and initiatives targeted at reducing skills mismatch in STEM.
