The EU STEM Coalition welcomes the European Commission’s renewed focus on STEM education. The Strategic Plan offers a powerful opportunity to align local, national, and European efforts — but to make it truly effective, we need to make sure the implementation is bottom-up, inclusive, and data-driven.
In our position paper, we call for:
- More attention to context-specific and locally-led initiatives
- Systematic sharing of best practices and success stories across Europe
- Structural support for inclusion of girls, women, and other underrepresented groups
- Smart use of microcredentials, built on strong educational foundations
- Better comparable data to track progress towards the 2030 STEM targets
At the core of our message: We urge the Commission to adopt a bottom-up approach, build on existing best practices, and ensure the inclusion of underrepresented groups in shaping European STEM education.
The EU STEM Coalition stands ready to contribute its expertise, network, and resources to support the STEM Education Strategic Plan, and suggests including one or more of our members on the executive STEM panel.
